The 6-month plan is what most families choose. Domestic arrangements take a few weeks to settle, and six months covers you if the first placement doesn't hold.

Guaranteed availability. The profiles are there, but whether a particular person is free on a particular date is up to her. Most families call several.
Subscription or agency commission: the actual numbers
Most maid and nursing agencies in Kerala charge a placement fee, usually equal to one month's salary. And they charge it again when the person leaves and they send a replacement.
Here's what that looks like over a year, for a full-time maid on ₹14,000 a month:

Worth being honest about the first row. If you hire one maid and she stays happily for the full year, an agency commission can work out cheaper than a 12-month plan. The subscription wins when the arrangement changes, which in domestic work it usually does. Maids move district, go home for a family reason, or the arrangement stops suiting one side. With commission hiring, every one of those changes costs you again.
The other difference isn't money. With an agency, someone else chooses who comes to your house. Here, you do.
