For most families that means one person taking leave and not sleeping for a week. It usually falls on whoever can least afford to be away from work.
Maids Hands For You lets you find a bystander yourself. Take a subscription, filter profiles for bystander availability in the hospital's district, and start calling immediately. You speak to her directly and agree the shift with her. No coordinator, no commission.
What a bystander actually does
A bystander is there for everything around the medical care, not the medical care itself.
- Staying with the patient through the assigned shift, day or night
- Calling ward staff when the patient needs something
- Helping the patient sit up, move, or reach the bathroom
- Helping with feeding and personal hygiene
- Collecting medicines from the hospital pharmacy
- Handling billing counters, admission and discharge paperwork
- Keeping the family updated on what the doctor said during rounds
- Staying awake overnight so the family can sleep
What she doesn't do is anything clinical. She won't give injections or medication, change dressings, or handle tubes and lines. That's ward staff, and hospitals are strict about it. If your family member needs clinical care at home after discharge, that's a home nurse.

Day duty, night duty, or both
Most families book night duty only, and it's usually the right call. The days are manageable when relatives can rotate through visiting hours. The nights are what breaks people.
Night duty typically runs roughly 12 hours, evening to morning. Day duty covers the working day, which suits families where everyone is employed and nobody can take leave. Some families book both across a long admission, usually with two different people rather than one person doing 24 hours, for the same reason it doesn't work anywhere else.
For a male patient who needs help moving or with bathing, families often prefer a male bystander or male nurse. Filter for it directly.
Getting someone quickly
Admissions don't give notice, so this usually starts as an urgent search.
What the platform gives you is immediate contact. The profiles are already there, so within a few minutes of subscribing you can be on the phone to several bystanders in that district rather than waiting for an agency to call you back and then call you back again.
What we can't promise is that a specific person will reach a specific hospital within a specific number of hours, because she has her own commitments. Anyone who guarantees that without knowing who's free tonight is guessing.
Practical advice: call three or four rather than one, say clearly which hospital and which shift, and ask whether she can start tonight or from tomorrow. Someone who's honest about tomorrow is more useful than someone who says yes to tonight and doesn't turn up.

What it costs
The subscription is what you pay us for profile access.
