Live-in Maid Services in Kerala

A live-in maid stays at your house. She has a room, eats with the household, and is there through the day and the night. For families with elderly parents at home, for households where both parents work long hours, and for homes where somebody needs to be around at all times, it's the only arrangement that really works.

It's also the arrangement families worry about most, because you're inviting someone to live in your home. Which is exactly why you should be the one choosing her.

On Maids Hands For You you take a subscription, read through the profiles of maids available for live-in work, and call the ones you're interested in. You talk to her before she ever comes to your house. No agency picks for you and there's no commission on the hire.

Live-in or full-time: they're not the same thing

The two terms get used interchangeably in Kerala and they shouldn't be.

A full-time maid works a full day, usually eight to ten hours, then goes home to her own family at night. She's there for the whole working day and gone by evening.

A live-in maid stays. There's no going home at the end of the day, because your house is where she's living for the duration of the arrangement. She gets fixed rest hours and days off, but she's on the premises.

Families often start out asking for full-time and realise, two weeks in, that the gap they actually needed covered was the night. If there's an elderly parent who gets up at 2am, or a patient who needs turning, full-time won't solve it. Be honest about which one you need before you start calling.

If you only need a few hours in the morning, a part-time maid is cheaper and probably enough. If cooking is the main requirement, look at cook profiles. If the need is medical rather than domestic, you want a home nurse, not a maid.

What you need to provide

A simple private room with a bed and storage for a live-in maid

This is the part families underestimate, so it's worth setting out plainly.

  • A room. It doesn't need to be large, but she needs her own space with a door and somewhere to keep her things. Sharing a room with the children, or sleeping in the hall, is not a workable arrangement and good maids will decline it.
  • Meals. She eats what the household eats, three times a day.
  • Rest hours. A live-in maid isn't on duty for 24 hours. Fixed hours off in the afternoon or evening are standard.
  • Days off. Usually one day a week, or a longer break once a month if she's from a distant district. Agree this before she starts, not after.
  • Bathroom access. Either a separate bathroom or clear arrangements for shared use.

Being clear about all five on the first call saves the arrangement from falling apart in month two, which is when most of them fail.

What a live-in maid does

The work is the same as any house maid, spread across a longer day: cleaning, washing, cooking, vessels, and often help with children or elderly family members. What changes is availability rather than the task list.

The realistic difference is that she's there for the things that don't happen on schedule. The elderly parent who needs help at night. The child who's unwell. The early morning when someone has a flight. That availability is what you're paying for.

What it costs

The subscription is what you pay us for access to the profiles:

Quarterly

₹7,500

3 months access · about ₹2,500 a month

Half-yearly

₹12,000

6 months access · about ₹2,000 a month

Annual

₹22,000

12 months access · about ₹1,833 a month

One subscription covers the whole period. No commission on any hire. Compare plans

Her salary goes directly to her and we take no part of it. A live-in maid in Kerala generally earns ₹15,000 to ₹22,000 a month in 2026, with Kochi, Ernakulam and Trivandrum at the top of that range and the northern districts lower. Remember you're also providing room and food, which is why the cash figure sits closer to a full-time maid's than the extra hours would suggest.

A commission agency typically charges one month's salary as a placement fee. For a live-in arrangement at ₹18,000, that's ₹18,000 gone before she's worked a day, and again if she leaves.

Is it safe to have a maid living in your home?

The honest answer is that it depends on how carefully you choose, which is the argument for doing the choosing yourself rather than accepting whoever an agency sends.

Every profile on the platform is checked before it's listed.

Beyond that, there are things worth doing yourself. Speak to her on the phone more than once. Ask for a reference from her last live-in placement and actually call it. Meet her before she moves in. And agree the room, the food, the rest hours and the days off in specific terms at the start, because most problems in live-in arrangements come from unclear expectations rather than bad intent.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is a live-in maid?

A maid who stays at your house rather than going home at night. You provide a room and meals, she gets fixed rest hours and days off, and she's available across the day rather than for a set shift.

How much does a live-in maid cost in Kerala?

Around ₹15,000 to ₹22,000 a month in 2026, paid directly to her, plus her room and food. Kochi and Trivandrum sit at the upper end.

Do I have to give her a separate room?

Yes. Her own room with a door is the standard expectation and most experienced live-in maids will turn down a placement without one.

How many days off does a live-in maid get?

Usually one a week. Maids from distant districts often prefer to bank these and take a longer break monthly. Agree which arrangement applies before she starts.

Can I interview her before she moves in?

Yes. You get her contact with the subscription, so you call her yourself, ask what you need to, and meet her if you want to before anything is agreed.

What if the arrangement doesn't work out?

Go back to the profiles and pick again. Your subscription is still running and there's no fresh commission.
